Our Story

A private jungle estate, and the family who call it home.

The family behind Saja and Sal

The estate

A life in the forests of Central India

Saja and Sal is the private jungle estate of Vijay, one of the most decorated officers in the country — a man who grew up in the forests of Central India and went on to travel all over the world.

A sportsman, hunter and ardent conservationist, he was as much at home tracking down terrorists and hardened criminals in India as he was hunting man-eating crocodiles and problem animals in Africa. Above all, he is a believer in nature, conservation and sustainability.

Protecting the forest

After a long career in law enforcement, Vijay and his wife Renu, an educationist of repute, now spend their time on the estate, working to protect and preserve the forests through their sister organisation, Green Coexistence.

Today

Sharing the estate

Saja and Sal now opens its gates to a few guests at a time — two tents among the trees, a heritage bungalow and a forest full of neighbours — so that others can know this jungle the way the family does.
